Same-side-sitters.

November 14, 2011

How do you feel about couples who sit on the same side of the table at restaurants? Do same-side-sitters annoy you?

Mike and I are most definitely same-side-sitters. I don't remember how or why we started sitting next to each other, but I would say about 75% of the time, we choose to sit next to each other at a restaurant. I had no idea that this even bothered people until I happened to see the secret I posted above, on the PostSecret app one night. Shortly thereafter, I happened to read about it one of the blogs I follow. I then did some Google-ing to see what other people felt about this. The general consensus is that this trait is annoying as hell! I had no idea that people felt so strongly about this- there are even Facebook pages out there dedicated to the hatred of same-side-sitters. A simple Google search yielded blog posts, Reddit topics and Formspring questions from people saying time and time again how ridiculous and how annoying same-side-sitters are. Why is this such an annoying thing to people? Is it because you don't like couples showing affection towards one another? Yes Mike and I do sit next to each other quite a bit, but I can assure you that we do not spend our entire meal making out or anything. We just like to be close to one another. We are a very affectionate couple and almost always are holding hands. I suppose it's both comforting and comfortable for us to sit next to each other. I guess we've been annoying waiters, waitresses and fellow restaurant patrons for years without realizing it. Annoying or not, I doubt we'll stop being same-side-sitters. It works for US!

  1. Mostly, it has to do with the fact that most 2 person tables are meant for people to sit across from each other so when couples sit on the same side they encroach on the surrounding tables.

While I'm all for PDA (seriously - I'm vile in the holding hands, cuddling department) there is something in me that screams "DEAR FUCKING GOD CAN'T YOU 2 SEPARATE LONG ENOUGH TO EAT!!"

I have no idea. But genuinely, who the fuck cares!!??!

  2. Amanda, I wish it was possible to reply to your actual comment (LJ anyone?!) but I should have been specific in my post. If the table is a two-person table, we don't sit next to each other- as there is generally no room. Our same-side-sitting is almost always if we are seated at booth OR a round table. but yes, WHO THE FUCK CARES! :)

  3. I usually sit across Andrew, but I have sat next to him before. To me it makes no difference. TBH I don't even think about it when I do or don't do it, or if anyone else does. I didn't know groups out there existed for the haters, and that anyone would actually give the time to troll people who sit beside each other lol

    Silly world.

  4. I've read a few posts from people that can't stand side-sitters. What I basically pull from them is that they are typically unhappy in their relationship. Happy couples actually WANT to be near each other. I know it's a strange concept, but I enjoy time with my best friend. 15 years of marriage and we still dance in the isles to grocery store music.

Whenever we see (most) other couples that obviously don't have what we have, it makes us sad. I am the 1%!

  5. It's also good for hanky panicky. A little hand job/fingering before she sucks you off on the car ride home. By then, eat her out in the bed, and fuck her pretty ass
